G Whip Spares

SPARES FOR OLD MODELS:

We are getting lots of enquiries for spares for the older models of the G Whip mobile antennas, please note that we do not supply spares for the old models, the reason for this is that there were different threads used on various models and some of the older models will not handle the now heavier duty parts/materials we use, so, sorry we cannot help with the old models. Original documentation/information is located on the main web page, click here.

COILS:

All present day coils have 3/8" BSF thread on the top and bottom, we have now produced these coils for any band including 1.8 MHz, 5MHz + WARC, and can make any coil for any specific frequency required. On older model G Whips there were some tiny coils that were made and stood off at right angle to the main stem, these were 1/4" BSF, these are not available.  NOTE: only the standard coils are produced at present no tiny coils are available. Prices are on the options page. On the very early G Whips that were tapered like fishing rods, the coils had ferrules that were similar to a current fishing rod connection, these are also not available.

Significant improvements have been made to the original coils of many years ago, a higher grade copper enameled wire has been used, the higher grade wire is called Poly 200 dual coated and has a top temperature of 212 deg C for ultra stability. Very little tuning drift has been noticed during trials of the antennas left outside in adverse weather conditions. Also added to improve the coils is a better dielectric heat-shrink material that has operating temperatures of -55 to +125 C and a new sealing compound to protect them from water. Finally, the commercial coils are epoxy resin filled adding even more strength to the tufnol tube, the ferrules are also machined made out of A2 grade stainless steel on our own lathe. Coils can be double heat-shrinked if required, this is standard with commercial versions.
